What kind of walks are they?

The walks are of varying length, between 2 to 8 miles, and are generally circular. Roughly, it takes 30 minutes to walk one mile, but my walks allow time for stopping places where I point out things of interest related to the theme of the walk. On some walks we stop for refreshment at a café or ‘pub’, or refreshments are provided. Some include a guided tour of a historic house or building.

All walks are accessible by public transport. They follow well-used footpaths, tracks and minor roads. Occasionally we may have to walk on a major road for a short distance. Walking boots or stout shoes are recommended. Waterproofs are also a good idea! Occasionally, you may need protective suntan lotion and a hat! You are recommended to always bring water or a soft drink, and a snack if you likely to run out of energy! You will be advised if you need to bring a packed lunch.

The walks are graded according to the difficulty of the terrain – see key below – and on walks graded moderate and hard, you may encounter stiles of varying awkwardness, steep slopes and mud! For this reason these walks are not recommended for those less mobile or wheelchair users. Unless otherwise stated, they are also not suitable for very young children. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the walks, unless we are visiting somewhere where dogs are not allowed. Please check when booking.

Key to walks

Walks are graded according to the difficulty of the terrain rather than the distance, which will always be stated:

Easy: mainly on the flat, usually around a village or town.

Moderate: some slopes, stiles and off-road footpaths

Hard: may include steep slopes, stiles and rough, boggy ground
